Recipes for a Cold Morning


Looking for some hot and hearty breakfasts to stave off the winter chill and feed as many friends and family as you may have over? Try one of these crowd-pleasing recipes the next time the weather is freezing and you've got to feed a houseful of guests.

Hot Skillet Breakfast

What you need:

  • 5 eggs
  • 1/3 Pound ground sausage
  • 2 Potatoes
  • 2 Tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 Small onion
  • 1/2 Small green pepper
  • 1/2 Cup shredded cheddar cheese

Cooking Directions:

  1. Dice the potatoes, onions and green peppers into small pieces.
  2. Saute the potato, green pepper and onion mixture in a skillet until they're all nice and soft.
  3. Add sausage to the skillet and cook until brown.
  4. Break all of the eggs into the skillet (go ahead and break the yolks as you stir the entire skillet mixture together).
  5. When the eggs are fully cooked, top the skillet with shredded cheese and serve.

Cowboy Goulash

  • What You'll Need:
  • 1 Pound ground beef
  • 1 Large can pork and beans
  • 2 Cups cooked rice
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • 3 Tablespoons molasses or brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons of your favorite barbeque sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons relish

Cooking Directions:

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large saucepan and drain the liquid.
  2. Saute onions with the beef until soft.
  3. Add pork and beans, brown sugar (or molasses), barbecue sauce, mustard and relish.
  4. Let the entire mixture simmer for 15 minutes and stir occasionally.
  5. Serve the goulash over rice.
